Are anxiety attacks caused by something? In the world we live in now, anxiety disorders may be the most common type of mental illness. In the United States, it affects 40 million adults or 18.1% of the adult population. All over the world, these numbers are going up, which means we need to act right away. Even though most studies are done on adults (people over 18), this disorder affects people of all ages.
We all say it's because of stress, too much work, or other things that make life too hard. But scientists have found that anxiety attacks are caused by:
Brian Biochemistry or Chemical Unbalance
Serotonin and dopamine are the two main neurotransmitters that affect how a person feels. Any imbalance of these chemicals can make you feel sad or depressed, which is a sign of an anxiety attack.
Genetics
Anxiety disorders can also be passed down through families, from a mother or father to a son or daughter or any other close relative. The way the brain is built and how it works is both passed down from parent to child. This is another reason why people with chemical imbalances can pass on anxiety disorders, which can lead to anxiety attacks. Anxiety attacks can also be caused by growing up in a violent home as a child where the family was always worried and angry.
How to Choose to Fight or Run
When we feel in danger, our bodies get ready to fight or run away. This is called the "fight or flight" system. Most of the time, this mechanism is set off by a part of the brain called the Amygdale. Sometimes the brain misinterprets a message or situation and interprets it as dangerous, even though it is not. This can make people have panic attacks.
The signs and symptoms are very real and scary. So, they make us think something is wrong, which makes us scared and less likely to trust them. Scientists say that the main reason why people have panic attacks is that they can't run away or fight.
Along with all the different medicines, scientists have also found a way to stop these symptoms with the help of modern science and technology. Now, all we have to do is learn how to spot these signs and see a doctor as soon as we can. As with any other disorder or illness, if it is treated early, it can almost always be fixed.
Pay attention to your body and know when it is giving you the wrong signs. Make sure you see a doctor because you should never trust your own diagnosis. Your doctor may see or know something you never would have thought of. Get more information and learn some techniques that will help you stop anxiety attacks in your tracks.
