Everyday stresses and strains can cause a wide range of emotional health problems. Some of these are depression, anxiety, trouble sleeping, anger, and panic attacks. In this article, I talk about each of these possible problems and offer ideas for how to solve them.
Depression
I'm sure that everyone gets depressed at different points in their lives. I know that I do. It's easy to get upset by things and people. We can start to feel sorry for ourselves and think that the world is against us.
There are two parts to the brain: the positive and the negative. During these times, the bad side of depression takes over, and it can be hard to get out of this rut.
The good side of my brain is like an apple, and the bad side is like a pear. If I only ever eat pears, I will never get to know how good apples are. In short, I need to give the good things a chance to help me become happy and learn to ignore the bad things.
Anxiety and attacks of panic
People sometimes start to worry about the future or even about what's going on right now. In some cases, this can even lead to a panic attack.
Worrying doesn't help, in my opinion; it just makes things worse. I have to be honest and say that I do worry and that a cloud of doom often hangs over my life. When this happens, I try very hard to break the cycle, and sometimes I even talk to the demons in my head. I have to fight with them to get what I want. I tell them they won't win, and I tell them I won't worry anymore. This is not easy to do, but I try to do it.
Insomnia
There are a lot of things that can make it hard to sleep at night, but the main one is stress. Other causes include snoring, getting too much caffeine, living in a noisy place, or being sad.
I've already written about stress and depression, and it's time to stop drinking so much coffee. A simple way to try to get to sleep when you can't is to read a book in bed before you go to sleep. This book should take your mind off any worries you may have, make your body feel better, and make your eyes tired.
Irritability
When people don't get enough sleep or work too hard, they can get too tired, which can make them irritable. This can raise a person's heart rate and make their muscles feel tight. It can also make a person feel anxious and tired.
So, it's important to make sure you get enough sleep each night (at least seven hours) and only work a certain number of hours each week. People care about money, but I think people should care more about their health.
What to do about these mental health problems
I've learned that I need to treat myself every now and then. I've never been able to relax well, and I often felt stressed and under pressure.
I now use different things at different times of the year to help me relax and give my body a treat. Some of these are aromatherapy, using herbal products, taking tai chi classes, and even Yoga, which I have tried. Yoga was never something I could get the hang of, but I've heard that people who can do it well can get a lot out of it.
Meditation
My favourite way to calm down is to meditate. I do this by sitting in a chair with a straight back and focusing with my eyes shut. I pay close attention to how I breathe, and that has helped me see things much more clearly.
In conclusion, there are many ways to improve your emotional health, and if you are determined, you can see your way to a better future.
