- Tell yourself that no matter what, there will be some mess when you have a child.
- Start with the clutter and messes you see every day. Get your kitchen, garage, and family room in order before you start on the closet in the hallway.
- Use drawer dividers to separate and organise socks, underwear, lingerie, and small items.
- Use the same idea to organise your silverware, giving each fork and knife a clear place, or your drawers for ties, socks, and underwear. Think about everything in your home the same way. This will save a lot of time and make it easier to find things. It will make a big difference in how much stuff is lying around "for now" or "until I find a place for it." Make a new motto: "Everything has a place, and everything has a place."
- Find a place for everything in your house. So, when your family needs something, they will know exactly where to look for it and where to put it away.
- Keep things you use often in places you can reach without stooping or bending, and put them close to where you'll need them.
- Give your library books a clear place to live in your house so you don't have to look everywhere for them when it's time to read or return them.
- Put hooks for your keys and purse at the entrance to your home so you can hang them up every time you come in.
- Get rid of all your junk drawers or just keep one that you clean out at least once a week. If you find that you use the same things over and over, give them their own drawer.
- Medicines that have run out.
- Clothes that you don't wear anymore.
- More paper or plastic bags for groceries.
- Samples of makeup and makeup you've never worn.
- Sunscreen that has been out of date for more than a year.
- Sort out your coupons and get rid of the ones that have already run out.
- Cookbooks you don't use very often. Only leave out your favourite recipes.
- Magazines you always meant to read but never did.
- Put your crumpled grocery bags inside a cardboard roll, like a roll for a hand towel. Keep under your sink.
By getting rid of clutter and organising your home from top to bottom, you will be able to focus on your daily tasks. If you make sure to clean about once a month, it will be much easier to stay on top of things week by week.
