I'll never forget the day when a friend told me that I could use a fast to get rid of my acne.
I owe that guy a lot because he saved my life.
Now, since he helped me a few years ago, Friends, let me introduce you to what Philippus Paracelsus called "the greatest remedy: the doctor within." This is quick, and it works for acne.
What are Fasts?
A fast is simply going without solid food for a long period of time in order to give the digestive organs a break. Not to be confused with starvation, this practise is very good for our overall health and is a much better cure for our physical and mental ills than all of the drugs that doctors can come up with together.
There are many kinds of fasts, and they all work well to treat acne (and, dare I say, any other health problem in its early, non-fatal stages).
Among them are:
- The Fruit Fast: This isn't really a fast in the traditional sense, but if you eat nothing but SEASONAL ORGANIC fruits for days on end—say, two meals of only one kind of fruit, like apples in the fall or melons in the summer—you're sure to feel better.
- The complete water fast: If you do this for more than 3 days, you should be very careful or go to a special health facility.
- The Juice Fast: This is easier for most people to do, and you can do it for as long as you want.
How to Not Eat
Because fasting is so extreme, it should be done with care. However, here are a few tips from my experience that should help you get started.
- Get your mind ready for the task ahead of you before you fast.
- Drink a herbal tea laxative like "Smooth Move Herbal Tea" every once in a while, about three hours after dinner and about an hour or so before going to bed.
- You can ease out of a water fast by doing the second type (juice fasting) for a few days, then slowly moving on to the third type (mono-fruit fasting). After that, you can do what I do most of the time and just eat a lot of fruit or cooked roots, steamed or raw leafy vegetables.
- Take it easy while you are fasting or on a fruit-only diet.
- Get ready for a fast by slowly cutting back on acid-forming foods, also known as "junk food." Start eating raw and cooked fruits and vegetables to start a gentler cleansing process, as these are the best things for the colon.
- Drink 1-2 quarts of plain lemonade in the morning to bring your body back to an alkaline state and balance out the chemical reactions going on inside it.
- Don't use a microwave at all costs. I can't explain why because that's a different subject, but TRUST ME. You don't want to use this so-called convenience device at all, not just while you're fasting.
Don't go back to eating the old junk food, no matter what you do. "You are what you eat" and "Let your food be your medicine" are two quotes that explain why in a nutshell.
In addition to these dietary tips, we should also make sure to practise good hygiene. This means that we should change our pillowcases every day, use only one towel (or paper towels) for our faces, avoid harsh acne medicines (I just use cool water and massage my face), and keep our dirty fingers off our faces.
Regarding the different types of fasts, I really think that options 2 and especially 3 are very easy for anyone to do. So why not just try it? I know for sure that fasting can and will do great things for your skin and overall health, just like it did for me.
Here's to clearer skin that comes from nature.
