"Don't count your chickens before they hatch" is a phrase you may have heard. Someone older and wiser might say this to you to keep you from getting too far ahead of yourself. As if you bought a new car before you started that new job. Well, you need to "count your chickens before they hatch" when setting and achieving your goals. I mean by this that you need to start picturing yourself reaching your goal. What you profess, you possess!
First, you need to sit down and write down your goals. "Goals are dreams with due dates," said Diana Scharf Hunt. People are often put off by the thought of taking the time to write down their goals. But when you go on a trip, don't you make a plan and decide where you want to end up? Well, the same thing happens when you set goals. I think you should do a Must Have, Why, and How analysis first.
First, make a list of the things you must have, like a bigger house, luxury trips, new cars, the ability to work from home, etc. Then, think about why these must-haves are important to you, and put them in order of importance. Lastly, write down how you plan to get the things you must have.
Also, you should ask yourself:
Why can't I get what I want right now?
What do I need to do what I want to do?
What things from the past are getting in the way?
Who can I talk to who has already done what I want to do?
How will I pay for it?
What do we have to give up?
What will I stop doing?
Start writing down your goals based on what you've learned. Remember that there can't be an end without a beginning. According to Denis Watley "Most people don't reach their goals because they don't know what they are and don't think they are realistic or possible. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who they will be travelling with."
After you've written down your goals, you should start picturing your dreams. Henry David Thoreau once said, "If one moves confidently in the direction of his dreams and tries to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with an unexpected success in common hours." You need to see yourself reaching your goals and getting what you want. You can make yourself do well. Don't ever think that you can't get what you want. Talk about the things you want as if you already have them. It's a good idea to read over your goals every day. Read them over and over if you're having a bad day.
Third, you need to make sure you have the tools and resources you need to reach your goals. You might have decided to start a home-based business as a way to make your dreams come true. Start making notes on how to run your work-from-home business. Join a group that might be able to help you. Make the first move toward your goals. Kathy Seligman said "If you don't step up to the plate, you can't hit a home run. If you don't put your line in the water, you won't catch any fish. You cannot reach your goals if you do not try." Start right away!!
The fourth tip is to hang out with people who are like you. "Get behind me, Satan," Jesus told one of his disciples, according to the Bible. He meant that if you are not on his side, you are against him. You should do the same. Get away from people who won't help you reach your goals. If you want to become wealthy, why not hang out with people who are already wealthy? Once, David J. Schwartz said "Think of small goals and don't expect to reach them. Think big goals and you'll get big success."
Last but not least, don't be afraid of success. Most people fail because they have this fear. They don't do anything to get ready for success. When they get what they want, they don't know what to do. People start to wonder why they were so successful. They start telling themselves that success is not something they deserve. And eventually get what they say they want. Make a plan for how to reach your goals when you set them. Tell yourself that you deserve success and that you should go after what you want. Catherine Pulsifer says it best: "The bad thing about not having your own goals in life is that you may reach a point in your life when you wonder, "What would have happened if I had just..."
In conclusion, the first thing you should do is to start making plans and setting goals. Then you need to start picturing yourself making your dreams come true. You will also need some tools and resources to help you reach your goals. And hang out with people who are happy and have the same goals as you. And most importantly, get ready to do well. Don't be afraid to be successful when the time comes. Jesus said in the Bible, "As a person thinks in his heart, so is he." You have to start thinking of yourself as having already reached your goals. Talk and act as though you already have them. Now get going!
