This article is about how to learn to have a good attitude. There are way too many people walking around feeling sad and down. I have to admit that I was one of these people until I took a different approach at the age of 22 and changed my whole life. I hope the article will help you and be fun to read.
From the time I started high school at age 11 until I was 22 years old, I wasn't exactly a happy person. Someone told me that I looked like I was carrying the problems of the whole world on my shoulders.
I always looked around at other people in my class and thought they had it so much better than I did. They didn't look like they had half the problems I did. I was envious of them because it seemed like they were sailing through life while I was having a hard time.
You might be wondering what I was going through. I had a stutter that got worse when I was four years old. Stuttering really hurt my confidence and made me want to hide away.
I was overweight, which was mostly because I ate to feel better when I was sad. I've had a bald spot on my head since I was born. It's not a big spot, but it was big enough for people to notice and make fun of me. I was always the shortest person in the class, and at five feet four, I am much shorter than most men.
At age 18, I was talking to a friend named John. John was always one of the people I was jealous of, and there were many reasons for that. On this particular night, John had become very emotional and we were both pretty drunk. During our conversation, he told me that his father was an alcoholic who would sometimes hit his mom when he got home too drunk. He was really worried and didn't know what to do.
Over the next few years, I learned things about the lives of my friends that I had not known before. My problems were clear to everyone, while theirs were hidden and kept a secret.
Since I was about twenty, I've become more and more interested in world events. Some things that have happened around the world have really shocked me, and I don't know how I would handle living in different places. Now, I'm very glad I was born in the UK.
I've learned that everyone has problems and that there are usually always people who have it worse than me. I now try to think much more positively, and I'm very happy with what life has given me.
