Our habits make us who we are. Either they help us move forward or they hold us back.
When it comes to habits, it's much easier to get into bad ones than it is to get into good ones. This is because it's easy to get into bad habits. They don't take much work. On the other hand, building a good habit takes work and self-control. They are much harder to get hold of.
"Our whole life, as far as it has a shape, is just a bunch of habits—practical, emotional, and intellectual—that are arranged in a way that helps us or hurts us, and pulls us toward our fate, whatever it may be."
-Teron Dumont
Bad habits waste time, hurt your character, and hurt your health. After being made. It is hard to break a bad habit. Once someone has gotten out of a bad habit, they must always be careful not to fall back into it. A good habit is much easier to break than a bad one. To keep a good habit, you have to pay attention to it all the time.
It would have been much easier to never get into the bad habit in the first place. Unfortunately, bad habits often start when people are young and don't have the foresight to know what will happen as a result of their actions.
Once they are formed, good habits are what drive a person to succeed and do well.
"We are what we do over and over again. Then, excellence is not a single act, but a set of habits."
- The Greek philosopher Aristotle
Keeping your eye on the "big picture" is one way to help you stick to your good habits. Keep in mind that every task you do each day moves you closer to your goals. It takes about 30 days to turn something into a habit. Once a good habit is formed, it makes a person feel bad and out of sorts if he doesn't do it. A new good habit stops being a burden and starts being a comfort and a joy.
Don't get down on yourself if you make a mistake, like ignoring a good habit or going back to a bad one. Just pick yourself back up and get going again. Tell yourself to be more determined, but don't beat yourself up or you'll end up in a hopeless depression.
"The greatest glory is not to fall, but to get back up when you do."
-Vince Lombardi
Don't let people make fun of you because you stick to good habits. All they want to do is bring you down to their level. You'll soon be way ahead of them. People who try to eat well and work out regularly are often called fanatics. People who criticise you are just making themselves feel bad because they don't have the courage to do what you're doing.
Sit down for a moment and think about the habits you might have. What good habits do you have? What bad habits are getting in your way? People with good character have made good habits a part of their lives and gotten rid of the bad ones. It's your life and it's up to you to decide how to live it. Your ship is under your control.
