When the seventh generation of video game consoles came out, it showed how the gaming industry would change. Big companies that make game consoles are always coming up with new ideas that they could use in their next models. So, interactive entertainment is at an all-time high right now, and video game consoles are being made that will definitely change the way we play video games, something that hasn't happened since the days of the Magnavox Odyssey and Atari game consoles.
And Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. (SCEI) is on its way to making a mark on the video game console industry that will be remembered for a long time.
Sony Corporation's subsidiary SCEI, which is in charge of researching, developing, making, and selling software and hardware for the PlayStation game console series, has released a new game console that is likely to compete with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii PlayStation 3. It was shown off at the E3 Conference in Tokyo on May 16, 2005. Like its two predecessors, the PlayStation 1 and 2, it was expected to be a big hit.
As they said in a press release after it was shown off at the E3 Conference, there are two different ways to set up a PlayStation 3 system: the basic and the premium. The basic setup of a PlayStation 3 system has four strong parts. It has 20 gigabytes of memory, which could be increased. In the basic edition, there is also a Blu-ray drive. With a Blu-ray drive and discs as its main media format, storing digital media won't be hard. It can store six times more data than the digital video discs that are out now (DVDs). A High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) port is also included in the PlayStation 3's basic system configuration.
The premium version of the PlayStation 3, on the other hand, has an internal hard drive with sixty gigabytes, multiple flash memory card readers, and wireless Internet access. It also has Bluetooth, an HDMI port, and a Blu-ray drive that can be used to connect controllers.
Sony promised that PS3 will work with older versions of PlayStation, which is good news for people who like them. The PlayStation 3 can play all of the media formats that the other PlayStation consoles could. Also, the PS3 has slots for memory stick duo, SD, and compact flash.
The specs of PlayStation 3 are different. The game console has a cell processor that runs at 3.2GHz, which gives it a great performance overall. It also sports immense multimedia features namely, digital photo, digital audio and digital video. The panoramic video feature in the current version of PlayStation was spread by Sonny. So, you can expect to enjoy the PlayStation 3's digital audio and video technology, which is very well done.
The PlayStation 3 game interface can save different user profiles, let you look at pictures, play music files in different media formats, and let you watch movies saved on the hard drive or removable memory. It also works with a USB mouse and keyboard and can do more than one thing at once. For example, you can listen to your favourite songs while looking at saved pictures or surfing the Internet. The PS3's cross media bar also works with different file types.
PlayStation 3 is the game console you should keep an eye out for. It will definitely change how you play your favourite video games, and it will probably set the standard for interactive entertainment in the 21st century.
