Sony's Playstation 3, which comes after the first Playstation and the Playstation 2, will go up against Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii.
Japan is going to get the Playstation 3 on November 11, 2006. On November 17, 2006, gamers in Canada and the United States will be able to get their PS3. On the other hand, the game consoles won't be available in Europe and Australia until March 2007. Reports say that this has been happening because there aren't enough diodes for Blu-ray discs. Officials from Sony have said that they will go to court against anyone who sells imported game systems to people in Europe.
When it first comes out, the Playstation 3 will be sold in two different ways. The first one is called "Basic." The PS3 will come with a 20 GB hard drive, a Blu-ray drive, an HDMI port, and wireless SIXAXIS controllers in this package. The Premium configuration is the second package. Instead of having a 20 GB hard disc, the Premium will have a 60 GB hard disc. There are also extra supports installed, like Wi-Fi and memory card readers. Both configurations can have their hard drives upgraded. Also, the memory card reader feature can be used with the Basic configuration by adding extra adapters.
The Playstation 3 console is made to look very nice. It has beautiful curves around the outside. Its sides are made to look like they are spreading out. A modern cooling system has also been built into the Playstation 3. This is done to deal with the heat that the console makes because of how its Cell processor works and how its system power supply works. People might think that since the Playstation 3 uses a lot of power, it would make a lot of noise when it is being used. But thanks to Sony's innovations, the PS3 is made to work in a way that is incredibly quiet.
There are silver, black, and white versions of the first game consoles. But when the Playstation 3 first came out, it was only available in black. From official sneak peeks, it looked like the console's outside was smooth and solid black. But the system's case looked black and almost see-through. The PS3 also weighs 11 pounds and is 12.8 inches by 3.8 inches by 10.8 inches.

Different places have different prices listed for the Playstation 3. In Japan, the 20 GB PS3 will cost JPY 49,980, which is equivalent to US$ 420. The price of the 60 GB model, on the other hand, will be set by retailers in Japan. The 20 GB version will cost $499 in the US, while the 60 GB version will cost $699.
