- You should never stick out your chest or stomach when fighting or practising to improve your skills. It makes your body stiff and makes it hard to move. Because of this, you are starting to lose control of your body. Always keep your back bent outward and your chest in when you're practising. This is the right way to tell the difference between a Kung Fu master and an athlete who does Kung Fu.
- The back should be a little bit bent outward, but the body has to stay in the middle. The body should not be bent too much. If not, it will lose its balance, which can lead to a loss of stability and equilibrium and make the energy going out weak. The back and pelvis must be on the same level.
When you fight, putting your head down is like putting a blindfold on yourself, because you can't see what your enemy is doing. It can also cause you to lose your balance.
- Your waist should be down during the fight. If it isn't, Qi will move up and build up in the chest. This buildup of Qi in the chest makes you lose your balance, and your movements will become clumsy and awkward right away. A person whose Qi is in the lower Dan Tian is like a weeble wobble because it is almost impossible to throw him to the ground. Now, think about moving the weight in the lower part of the weeble wobble up. The weeble wobble would fall over with the slightest push.
- The elbow and wrist of the hand are round.
- When you practise, make sure you always do the moves right. If you don't, you'll pick up bad habits, which is more bad than good. When learning new skills, you should never be in a hurry. Only after you have done a move correctly many times can you think about making it faster or stronger.
- It's not good to do techniques you've already learned sloppily, since it doesn't help much. For techniques you already know how to do, you need to use all of your consciousness, or Yi, to send your Qi energy to the part of your body doing the technique. For example, if you kick with your heel, you need to put all of your energy into the heel as soon as the heel touches the enemy (target).
- Work out your mind, spirit, consciousness, and Qi until they all come together inside of you. You won't be able to send your Qi anywhere you want until this happens.
- The key to becoming a master is to work every day on polishing the basic technique, which is something that neither the master nor the disciple can do without.
