- Washing hair
- To get dirt and dead skin cells off the head, brush or comb hair well. Wet the hair well so that both the top and bottom layers are saturated with water.
- Pour about 1 teaspoon of shampoo into a small amount of water to make a diluted solution. Then, use your fingertips to massage the diluted shampoo into the roots, making sure to cover the whole head.
- Use the flat side of your hand to work the shampoo into the top layers of hair where most of the hair is.
- Rinse well with water until all of the shampoo has been washed away.
- If you need to, do the same thing again.
- Getting ready
- Shampoo your hair as described above as many times as you want and wash it well each time.
- Put about 2 to 2 1/2 tsps of conditioner all over your hair.
- Leave on for about 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly until all of the conditioner is gone.
- To dry
Keep in mind that wet hair can lose up to 20% of its elasticity and a lot of its natural bounce. So, after washing, be as gentle as possible with it:
- Squeeze out any extra water, wrap the hair loosely in a clean towel like a turban, and press down hard on the head. Do not rub very hard.
- Once the hair isn't dripping wet anymore, the best thing to do is to let it dry on its own.
- When using a blow dryer, take advantage of the control and try to do as little damage as possible: (a) Don't start drying until the hair is three quarters dry; (b) Don't hold the dryer over one area of the head for too long; (c) Don't let the scalp get too hot; (d) Gently brush the hair into the style you want; and (e) Don't continue to dry hair that is already dry.
- Combing and brushing
Always brush your hair when it's dry, because brushing it when it's wet makes the ends split.
- When you brush your hair, tilt your head forward. This gets more blood to the head and stimulates the hair.
- Don't use a brush with sharp teeth because it could pull the hair apart.
Fine hair needs a brush with softer bristles, while thick, long hair needs a bigger brush with stiffer bristles.
- Use a comb with teeth that are far apart to comb through wet hair.
- The best way to get knots out of tangled hair is to start at the ends and slowly move up.
