Most men think that the size of the penis shows how manly a person is and how well he or she can satisfy another person sexually. Because of this, the size of your penis can have a big effect on your sense of self-worth and confidence. If your penis is smaller than average, you might feel anxious and afraid of getting close to someone.
There have been a lot of studies and research done to figure out what the average penis size is. Here's what happened:
Study #1
Alfred C. Kinsey Institute for Research on Sexuality
Year: 1948
3500 college men who are white
The average length of a penis is 6.2 inches.
The average size of a penis is 4.9 inches.
Comments: It's important to remember that the survey was based on information from men who measured themselves. The survey only had white males, and all of them were college students, so it didn't show a wide range of races or ages.
Study # 2
Condoms by Durex
Year: 1980
Sample: 2,936 men from all over the world
The average length of a penis is 6.4 inches.
The average size of a penis is 5.2 inches.
Men were asked to take measurements of themselves and post the results online. Most of the people who took part were from the United States, and most of them were white.
Study # 3
Condoms for LifeStyles
Year: 2001
Sample: 301 adults who signed up to help
The average length of a penis is 5.9 inches.
Average penis circumference is 5 inches.
A researcher took measurements of each person who volunteered.
Study # 4
Brazilian Urologist
Sample: 150 Brazilian men
The average length of a penis is 5.7 inches.
The average size of a penis is 4.7 inches.
A researcher took measurements of each person who volunteered.
One important conclusion is that volunteers who are allowed to measure themselves may in fact lie about how big they are.
So, based on the results above, it looks like the average erect penis is between 5.7 and 6.4 inches long and has a circumference of between 4.7 and 5.2 inches.
(1 inch is 2.54 cm, and 0.25 inch is 0.635 cm)
