Here is the basic idea behind any scrapbook. For Mother's Day, just add more personal things like memories that are important to her. Favorite pictures, colours, flowers, a lock of hair, and other things would show her how much you care. A scrapbook is a great personal gift for Mother's Day.
Sort your photos and choose a theme to work on. Usually, 5–7 photos fit on a two-page spread and 3–5 photos fit on a single page. Choose only the best photos to show what you want to say about the event, feeling, or moment.
Choose two or three colours of safe paper that go well with the colours in the photos. Try out different colour combinations to find the ones that make your photos look best. You might want to add stationery or fancy paper that goes with the theme of your pages.
Pick a photo to be the centre of attention. As a general rule, choose photos that have clear images, bright colours, and subjects that are well-lit.
Cut your photos into shapes and put them in mats to make your focal point stand out even more. You can easily do this by matting your photo with a wider border than the others, or by matting it twice or even three times. When shaping your photos, keep in mind that simple shapes like rectangles, ovals, circles, and squares are among the most pleasing. If there are things in the background that aren't important or that are distracting, just cut them out. Keep in mind that this doesn't mean you have to cut out all of the background. Often, simple things in the background of a photo will bring back a flood of memories that are important for writing in a journal or thinking back on the past.
Add journaling. Your thoughts, feelings, and experiences can't be added to a page until you do. Take a few minutes to write down the "who," "when," "what," and "why" as well.
Put your photos, writing, and titles in the right places on your page. Pay close attention to how your eye moves as you put these things together. Most of the time, well-designed pages are balanced and flow in a way that looks like the letter Z. Think of your layout as being on a scale to see if it is balanced. Does one side make a difference? When you're happy with the layout, you can just stick the pieces to the page.
Try some extra things. As you get better at scrapbooking, try adding some embellishments to your pages. Stickers, die cuts, rubber stamps, and punches are some of the most common page accents. You don't want these things to take over your photos, so don't use them too much.
