Is there a better time to get pregnant than others? During the reproductive cycle, when is the best time to get pregnant?
Most of the time, ovulation is the best time to try to get pregnant. Here are some tips about getting pregnant that will help you figure out when is the best time:
- Use an ovulation predictor kit. These cheap kits can tell you when you are going to ovulate, so you know for sure when the best time to get pregnant is. This test has been shown to be very accurate at finding the rise in luteinizing hormone that usually happens 24–48 hours before a woman ovulates.
- Get a good book about fertility and read it. Learn as much as you can about getting pregnant, being pregnant, and having a healthy baby.
- Figure out when you are most fertile. Usually, ovulation happens about 14 days before your next period. That means that if your cycle lasts 28 days, your most fertile day could be day 14 (day 1 is the first day of your last period). If your cycle lasts 30 days, day 16 could be the right time. Day 18 of a 32-day cycle would be a good day to try to get pregnant.
- Keep track of your basal body temperature. You can buy a cheap basal thermometer and use it to record the small rises in your body temperature when you wake up each day. These rises can tell you when the best time to get pregnant is. Even if the changes in basal temperature are only about a tenth of a degree, a basal thermometer can still detect them.
- Keep an eye on your cervical mucus. When you ovulate, your cervical mucus will look and feel different. If you check yourself every day, you'll be able to see the "egg-white-like" discharge that means you ovulated and which days are best for getting pregnant.
It can be both exciting and scary to decide to get pregnant and have a child. Even though this journey is often hard to predict, the choices you make now will have a big impact on your health and the health of your baby. When you are pregnant, your baby will be healthier if you are in good health.
