Simple mindfulness exercises put you in a state of awareness where you can let go of distractions and let your mind power work better. They make it easier to think clearly and focus. There are also easy ways to do them.
More Mind Power in Minutes
A simple way to practise mindfulness is to sit down, relax, and take deep breaths through your nose. Close your eyes and pay attention to the in and out of your breath. After a minute, focus on one part of your body at a time and notice if it feels cold, hot, tight, sore, or anything else you can think of. In a few minutes, stop thinking about the sounds in the room and just listen to them. Just listen.
When it feels right, open your eyes and look around like it's the first time you've ever seen it. Rest your eyes on something for 30 seconds and look at it without thinking about it. Then move on to another object, and another, while still being aware of your body, your breathing, and any sounds. Stay in this state of awareness until you are ready to get up.
Being more "in the moment" means being more aware of your body, your breath, and your immediate surroundings. Your mind is very open and there aren't as many things going on in it that get in the way of clear thinking. If you do a mindfulness exercise before doing something important that requires your mind, you will be able to focus and concentrate better.
An Even Easier Mindfulness Trick
Try this one today: When you feel stressed, stop and carefully watch yourself to figure out what's bothering you. Maybe you think something bad is going to happen, or you're having an argument in your head, or you're worried about something, or you're in pain in some way. Write down everything you discover.
Then take care of these things that bother you. Make the phone call you've been thinking about, take an aspirin, and say you're sorry to the person you were fighting with. Put things on your list for tomorrow to get them out of your head. Tell yourself that if there's nothing you can do right now. If you do this exercise, you'll feel less stressed and be better able to focus on what you need to do. Today, your mind will be stronger.
