By Paula Picard: A Great Teacher
A good teacher always leaves behind knowledge. They give you new knowledge and understanding that you didn't have before.
Great teachers don't always let people know they're there. Sometimes the teacher dresses up as an enemy, like a bossy parent, an unfair boss, a dishonest business partner, or an unfaithful partner. The adversarial guide makes you look deep into your own spirit to find the courage and strength you already have. On the contrary, a great teacher can be a wise and enlightened soul whose very presence is inspiring. They force you to figure out the answers for yourself. A great teacher is a guide who shows others how to do things. A real guide will never tell you what to do or give you the answers. They will help you by making you look inside yourself to find your own wisdom.
In either case, when a teacher comes into your life, it changes a lot. You will learn new things and gain new wisdom from the experience. Once they come into your life, you will never be the same. You meet many teachers every day, and when you accept this, you give yourself a lot of chances to learn and grow.
Think for a moment about this question: "How did someone in your life change you?" If it hurt you emotionally, what did you learn from it? If it was a mentor or teacher, how did they make you want to do better? What wisdom or knowledge did they leave behind when they were in your life?
