This year, the trendiest way to decorate for Christmas is to go back in time. Fewer homeowners seem to be interested in icicle lights and strands of just one colour. Baby boomers seem to be going back to their childhoods by bringing back traditional Christmas lights with all their bright colours.
Lawn decorations are a must-have for the elves in your neighbourhood who like to decorate. Families everywhere are putting up big lawn decorations, many of which have moving lights. The fact that there are so many different shapes, sizes, and designs should tell you that these are very popular with homeowners who like to decorate for the holidays. I really like the old-fashioned bubble lights with coloured water and bubbles inside, and they are back with a vengeance.
Many people are going back to using real trees instead of plastic ones that are already made. Who could be mad at them? They smell great and make Christmas feel even more like it's here. We've always used a real tree in my family. Going out and cutting the tree ourselves has become a family tradition. Usually, we wait until the middle of December. We all put on our snow gear, pull out our sleighs, and head into the woods with a thermos of hot apple cider. It's fun for the kids and the dog, and it's a great trip for the whole family.
It looks like Christmas flowers have changed as well. Even though the classic red poinsettia will probably always be popular, many florists are now offering other options. Florists are now adding dyes to traditional holiday flowers and bouquets, just like they have been doing with flowers in general for a while. My favourite is a poinsettia with a bright violet colour. Cobalt blue is her favourite colour. What do you have?
Whether you like to stick to Christmas traditions or like to follow the latest trends in decorating, Christmas decorations have never been so different and given people so many options. So go shopping, shopping, shopping! After all, 'tis the season!
