You buy a cool, expensive keychain with 32 features, including a panic button, and tell yourself that it's the perfect gift. Of course, it's not. The man who has everything has probably seen the super keychain before and decided not to buy it because he would never use it in a million years.
Finding gifts for the man who has everything is never easy, because he already has everything. You know the kind: they have a good job, a nice car, a good family, and a few hobbies. They are probably a good person all around, but they are not easy to buy gifts for.
The biggest problem is that if he really wants something, he'll probably just go buy it himself. So, he probably already has everything he really wants, and he probably doesn't want very much of what he doesn't have. This makes it hard for you, the person giving the gift.
You tell yourself, "Well, I guess I should get him something." You go into a store, maybe The Sharper Image, and it looks like they have a lot of gifts for the man who already has everything, like personalised golf tees, fighting robots, and keyboards that glow in the dark.
He doesn't say this when you give him the gift, though. He is kind and thanks you a lot, but then he puts the keychain in a drawer and hopes you don't say he never uses it.
So what do you think you should do? Well, since the man who has everything hasn't bought anything he hasn't already seen, try to find something that fits his taste but is hard to find.
For example, if you're going to a wine region and you know he likes Chardonnay, pick up a few bottles from a small winery that he probably hasn't heard of before.
If he's a football fan, pick up a piece of vintage memorabilia on Ebay that he wouldn't be able to find otherwise. Don't take the easy way out and buy a gift from the store that says "for the man who has everything." Those gifts are usually things neither you nor he would want.
Even if the gift isn't as expensive as the super keychain or monogrammed golf tees, if you put some thought into it, he'll probably like it more. If you pay attention to what he likes and what he can't find, you'll find the perfect gift for the man who has everything.
