Fear is a big reason why people don't start their own businesses. I have...
Every entrepreneur I've ever talked to has had to face their fears. I too have had to. I'd like to tell you some of the things I've done to deal with them. The first step is to stop denying what's happening. Even if you don't say it out loud, you have fears. They sometimes sound like voices in your head telling you that you can't do something.
Fear is a big reason why people don't start their own businesses. I was told by the CEO of a real estate-based network marketing company that even though his company seminars are always full, only about 2% to 5% of the people who go will actually use what they learned by making offers on real estate. He is sure that everyone else is frozen with fear.
Here are some of the things I've done that I learned from other business owners:
Consider what you do want. When you keep going over and over in your mind the worst thing that could happen, turn it around and think about what you DO want. Think about getting what you really want. Check out the new home. Imagine yourself talking to the person who is interested as they join your business. You get what you pay attention to.
Switch up the voice. When you tell yourself you're not good enough, you're doomed to fail. Just change your voice to that of Mickey Mouse, Jim Carrey, or someone else who doesn't mean much to you. What does it matter if Mickey Mouse doesn't like you? Is Mickey Mouse an entrepreneur?
Tell them to a friend or colleague you can trust. Hope you've been able to get some help from at least one other business owner. You should have a significant other who backs you up. If not, you should be able to talk to someone from your team, your upline, or corporate who can help. Some people might tell you it's silly that you think you're not good enough. My wife has always been there for me when I need help. But don't go to all the people who doubted you and said it was crazy to go out on your own and ask them for help. They will never get the business owner.
Have a personal development library. I get a lot of help from my library. It's not just full of how-to guides, though. It also has stories of people who overcame their fears. I couldn't even start to list all the sources I know of, but if you email me, I can suggest something based on what you tell me about your situation.
You should do it. Sometimes, just taking the smallest step can get you going enough that the fear of not doing something can go away. One example would be not writing an article like this one because you are afraid you will fail. Just getting started can be enough to keep going until the end.
Think about what you want to happen, but make the action the goal. For the business owner, there is a small difference here. You want the result, but maybe you can't directly change it. Think about the end result, but make your goal the consistent and persistent actions of an entrepreneur. The action will lead to the result in the end, and you can definitely reach your goal.
Never, ever quit. I don't even like to say that q word. If you give up, you stop being an entrepreneur. If you don't, you're not losing, you're getting better.
