Aikido is one of the traditional martial arts that uses both the body and the mind. It emphasises not only the use of physical skills, but also the spirituality of the people who practise it and those who want to learn it.
Aikido is a martial art that uses more defensive moves than offensive ones. In fact, its goal is not to hurt someone, but to stop or stop them. This may be why weapons aren't used much in the sport. Most of the moves and techniques in martial arts are what make them what they are. Still, there are some advanced people who choose to train with weapons. The tanto, the wooden jo, and the bokken are all weapons used in aikido. Often, people learn how to take weapons from their opponents and keep the weapon they are using.
Aikido practitioners rely more on the moves they are taught than on the weapons they use. People who want to hurt them can't hurt them if they know how to do these moves well.
Here's a list of the different moves and techniques that are taught in aikido.
Ikkyo
In aikido, this is the most basic move. In fact, it's the first thing that people learn. Ikkyo uses control in the grip by putting his hands on his elbows and close to his wrists. The grip can put pressure on the ulnar, a part of the arm that is in the middle.
Atemi
Atemi are feints or hits that are used to attack the body's most important spots. This move is meant to do a lot of damage, so it's not used very often in aikido. Still, atemi can be used to fight your way out of fights if you need to. It can also be used to take your mind off something. By causing a shocking event, Atemis can catch your opponent off guard and make him lose focus. When used correctly, it can also throw your opponent off balance, giving you a chance to strike or run away.
Kicks are another type of strike that can be used in aikido. This is not used as often, though. Aikido does not like kicks because they can cause too many injuries. Also, in feudal Japan, where aikido came from, kicks were not used very often.
Here are some common ways to strike someone.
face-thrust Ganmen-tsuki is an aikido move that has a complicated name, but it is just a punch to the face.
Front-face In the language of aikido, this move is called Shomenuchi. It is a vertical knife strike to the head of the opponent.
Side-face This strike, also called Yokomenuchi, is done by making a diagonal knife-hand strike to the side of the opponent's neck or head.
Chest-thrust This move, called Mune-tsuki, is a punch to the torso that aims for the chest, solar plexus, and abdomen.
Attacks
Even though attacks are usually discouraged in aikido, teachers still see the need for them if a more offensive technique is needed. In aikido, one type of attack is the immobilising grab, which is often used against people who are holding weapons.
Grabs
One of the most basic moves in aikido is this one. People think that it is safer and easier to do. It is a way to free one's hand, take away an opponent's weapon, or stop someone from moving.
