The Goonies is a thrilling fantasy adventure movie for kids, but adults will also enjoy it. It was created by the great filmmaker Steven Spielberg. In The Goonies, a group of young kids have to get through a series of tests and problems in order to save the day. This shows how successful the Harry Potter movies would be. In a lot of ways, the movie is like Indiana Jones for kids. It's made in a way that makes it easy for kids to imagine themselves in the same situation.
The movie shows what The Goonies, a group of kids from the neighbourhood, get up to. Because their neighbourhood is being turned into a commercial area against their will, the kids are sad that this might be one of their last times to hang out together.
But while Mikey, Chunk, Mouth, and Data (the Goonies' nicknames) are exploring Mikey's attic, they find a treasure map hidden in the back of an old picture frame. It is said that the map leads to the famous pirate "One-Eyed" Willy's long-lost treasure. With Mikey's older brother Brandon and two other girls from the neighbourhood, Andy and Stef, the group sets out to find the pirate's vast wealth and save their homes from the wrecking ball.
But they can't do it because of a small problem. The beginning of the treasure map is under an old, empty house that the notorious Fratelli crime family used as a hideout. Jake and Francis, along with their deformed but kind brother and their mean mother, make up a pretty scary group. The Goonies leave Chunk behind when they find the entrance to the cave that holds their treasure. In order to find out what happened to the boy's friends, the Fratellis ask him a lot of mean questions. But they don't find One-Eyed Willy's secret passage until water that was spilled down the hole in the fireplace.
The Fratelli family is right behind them, so the Goonies have to get through a series of mental and physical obstacles set up by pirates hundreds of years ago to keep people who didn't belong there away from their valuable treasure. In between the action, there are a number of clever and funny one-liners that make the movie more fun to watch as a whole.
The kids find One-Eyed Willy's monster treasure in the end. But can they stop the greedy Fratelli family from getting what they want? Will they be able to use the treasure to save their neighbourhood? You'll have to watch the movie to find out, and believe me, it's a lot of fun...
Each star brings something different to the movie. Chunk's constant whining makes for many funny moments, and Data's strange homemade inventions, which sometimes go beyond what is possible in real life, are a welcome addition to a fantasy adventure movie for kids.
With the release of The Goonies on DVD, a whole new generation will be able to see how exciting and amazing this movie is. The Goonies is a must-see movie because it has a lot to offer people of all ages and is about a thrilling search for hidden treasure. If you haven't seen it or, even worse, if your kids haven't seen it, I really think you should rent this one...
