For self-defense during an attack on the street, it's important to be mentally ready. It is very important to be ready to fight off the attacker(s) with everything you have. Keep in mind that even if you are not in very good shape, these ways could be enough to stop your enemy (enemies).
For example, if you wear hard shoes with sharp toes, kicking an enemy in the groyne or leg with the toe of such a shoe (even if you haven't practised this kick for years) will make him writhe in pain for a few seconds. And this gives you enough time to either stop the enemy or run away.
Using your fingernails to scratch your enemy also causes pain shock, which makes him unable to fight for a while. People will understand this if they think about how dangerous a mad cat can be.
In more than one case, an angry cat has forced its owners to hide in a room and wait for the police to help them. When this happens, police officers often have to use their guns to protect themselves and save the people who own the animal.
Now, let's look at a cat. It weighs about 30 times less than a man. And this tiny thing can fight back against police officers with guns. That's a start. The other thing is that a regular schoolboy who beats up a cat can get away with it, even though the cat doesn't do anything to defend itself.
Now you can see the difference between a man who fights back with everything he has and a man who doesn't fight back at all or tries to fight back but doesn't do it well.
So, on the one hand, we see an angry, attacking cat that two armed policemen can't stop, and on the other, we see a gentle cat that a little boy can easily control. This is a very big difference. This example shows that you have a better chance of winning a fight if you fight back quickly and hard.
I remember a story my student told me about a small, weak man who was attacked by a big, strong, taekwondo-trained guy with a black belt. The man was able to defend himself.
This small man was so angry and fearless that he threw a bunch of weak, unskilled blows at a much bigger man who had hurt him. The bigger man was shocked and could only try to cover himself from the blows.
One might wonder what chance a small, middle-aged man who has never played a sport would have in a fight with a young, well-trained taekwondo school student who has a black belt. Anybody would say that he didn't have a chance. But nothing turned out well for anyone except the young brazen beggar.
Why, in the end, that little man who had no chance of winning was the winner. It's very easy. As soon as the fight started, he completely shut down his conscious mind, and his subconscious mind took over.
At that moment, all he could think about was the enemy and how to stop that enemy in any way possible. At that moment, his mind was almost the same as the Universe. He had no fears because he no longer felt afraid.
He didn't have any doubts or other problems, so everything he did turned out to be TRUE. Even though he wasn't very strong or skilled, he put everything he had into each blow. So that's why he won the fight even though it looked like he had no chance.
On the other hand, his enemy was scared and uncertain after this sudden and furious counterattack. He thought that no one would ever attack him because he was so strong and had fought before. Not this small man, who, it seemed, should have been shaking with fear.
But it turned out that the weak spirit was in that strong, trained beef. At the most important time, he lost his will, his cool, and his ability to fight. He just got scared and confused, so a weaker and less skilled opponent was able to beat him.
