Sometimes you think of a great story for your blog. You know it will bring you a lot of traffic, but you have a problem. No one has heard about your wonderful blog post. To get as much attention as possible, you need to get the word out. This is where social networks and bookmarking services come in handy.
What is a social bookmarking network?
It's a place where you can tell other people about your stories or bookmarks. Take blog reporter for example. You post your blog story to the network so that other members can vote on it and say what they think about it. Stories that get a certain number of votes and are more popular are moved to the front page. Most social networks have their own features. Some of them even let you export a lot of bookmarks right from your browser.
Why do people use social networks?
- Most people can get to your blog with just one click. A popular post can bring you tens of thousands of visitors every day.
- Most social networks are free, and signing up and making your first post takes only a few seconds.
- Since social networks are what they are, a lot of people use them. Users often come back to see what new stories have been posted and to share their own.
- Search engines like most social networks. Not only will big search engines find your story quickly, but most of the time you will also get a link in return. Some social networks rank very well on Google (PR)
- You can always send in another story if yours doesn't make the front page. Most of the time, you can send in as many stories as you want.
- When you see how many other websites use feeds from different social networks, you'll be surprised. A good story can spread like wildfire through the network.
Here are some tips and tricks:
- Just enjoy your experience. Certainly, I find it more interesting than other ways to promote a blog, like building links.
- It's better if you send in more than one story. If you want consistent traffic, you will need consistent submissions.
- If you want more votes, you can always ask your friends to join and vote for you. Don't make fake accounts, or you'll get kicked out.
- A story that is interesting and memorable is often a must. Your main goal is to get enough votes to make it to the front page. You need to tell other readers why they should vote for your story. Stories that are strange, shocking, or cause trouble often do well.
There are many different kinds of social networks out there. A simple Google search should be enough. Blog Reporter is the first personal publishing network made just for blogs, which is why I recommend it.
