Podcasting is just putting an audio file on a website, as you may already know. If it is combined with an RSS file, people can sign up for your feed and listen to your wise words whenever they want. This is a good thing because it lets people hear your words, your voice, and your identity.
How to Get Started with Podcasting
It's also easy to get your podcast out there. You can use Blogger, TypePad, and Feedburner to turn your podcast into a feed.
How to Make a Podcast Easily
The easiest way to get started and try out podcasting on your own is to just get a microphone and the free software from Audacity.
Okay, we all know that most people don't like hearing their own voices, but hey, it's your voice, and it lets your listeners know that you are a real person and not a machine.
When you're done, you'll have to put your podcast on your server. The only things I can think of that could stop you are how much space you have on your server and how much bandwidth you use.
Putting up your podcast on Feeds
To get a lot of people to listen to your podcast, you will need to submit it to podcast directories. Well, Feedburner is one of the fastest ways to get this done. Just click the "Podcasting" button, and you'll be taken to a page with all the information you need. In fact, they have a site called "PingShot" that will automatically tell the directories and web-based aggregators when you publish new content. I mention this one because it is free. It doesn't make sense to pay for something if you are just trying it out, right? But . . .
There is still a learning curve here, and you will need to take some time to read through some of the information on the different sites to get the information you want and figure out how to use it. But it seems that podcasts are now the thing to do. Will it continue? I think it may. But it looks like Video Casts will be the next great thing to come to the Internet. The bandwidth and storage are the only things I can think of that might stop some people from using this media. But we will see.
