Let me ask you another question
How far is it from one place to the other?
This isn't a trick; the answers are very simple, and you probably learned them in school.
...In a straight line!!
So what does this have to do with you achieving your dreams as soon as possible, before they fade away and you stop seeing them?
Simple, you should always be going straight toward them. So, you'll get there as fast as possible.
So why don't you always go straight toward your goals, and why doesn't everyone do that?
People don't always move toward their goals for many different reasons. They might say things like:
"I don't have the strength." "My cat/dog/goldfish was ill" "I didn't have time" (watching the television...) "I was going to, but my friend/relative/cousin/aunt/uncle/cousin from far away called" "I was thinking about something else"
Or sometimes they don't know what to do because there are too many choices. Or they start doing something and going in a certain direction, but then a new trend comes along and they switch to that, then to the next one, and so on. In the end, they do nothing but run in circles. So many people jump from idea to idea and never get anything done.
Or they might just make things harder than they need to be by adding a lot of extra steps between where they are and where they want to be.
How many of these have you already done? Just tell the truth...
I'm sure I've done all of them...
There are some things you can't avoid, like major dramas, serious illnesses, and accidents, which will require your attention and slow you down for a while. But people often let these things stop them for good.
These things don't have to happen. You can choose. We let ourselves get distracted.
No matter what your favourite way to waste time is, you end up losing sight of your goals and wasting time and energy without getting anywhere. Until you get so down on yourself that you give up trying to reach that goal.
THE HABIT THAT CAN SAVE THE DAY
So how can you avoid the problems that come with being distracted?
There is one very important mental habit that can make a big difference. All successful people in business, science, the arts, and other fields learn this habit....
- * FOCUS **
Keep your mind and energy on the goals you want to reach. Don't let problems and other things distract you. Don't forget that what you think about is what you get. If you choose to pay attention to other things, you won't get anywhere. If you decide to keep your mind on your goals, you will reach them.
Focusing is something you should do every day.
- *Every day, take a few minutes to remind yourself where you want to go.
- *If something gets in the way, stop and take a deep breath. Bring your plan back to mind. Ask yourself if this thing helps or hurts you. Do only things that will help you.
- *Make a well-thought-out plan that spells out where you want to go and how you're going to get there. Make sure it sounds plausible so you won't be tempted to switch horses in the middle of the race.
- *Every day, plan how you will spend your time. Make sure you know when you will do the things you need to do that day to move forward.
USE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT
It can be hard to pay attention if you aren't used to it. To change your habits, you will have to work at it.
Keep in mind that there are a lot of tools out there that can help you focus better. For example, many people find it helpful to make a simple "to-do" list every day. If this isn't enough, you can find a lot of tools for personal development that will help you focus more. You need to find tools that work for you and start using them.
