Do you do something for your clients? If you do any kind of work, you do. Do you want to set yourself apart from the crowd? If so, you can make more money as long as you are committed to giving service that goes above and beyond what is expected.
Do you insist on getting great customer service every time? Do you always "come through" for your customers by giving them great service? There's a good chance you've been very unhappy with the service you got from a salesperson, an internet hosting company, a hair colorist, or any of thousands of other service providers at some point. Customer service in many industries, including retail, isn't what it used to be. But where customer service is bad, there is also a great chance to make money. Read on, and I'll tell you why.
Let's say you work in a field where customers usually get so-so service. It's possible that customers don't expect great service because they don't know what to expect. Maybe most customers only care about price and don't care how quickly or well you deliver. But you can bet that there are some customers who like service that goes above and beyond what is expected in the industry. Most of the time, these same customers will pay a bit more for a service that really helps them. If you can find a way to reach these customers, you can find a niche, raise your prices, and make more money over time.
Depending on your business, you might be able to charge 10–25 percent more than the average provider. That may not sound like much, but it could mean the difference between eating a hamburger or steak. I don't know about you, but I'd rather eat steak than chicken!
Of course, if you want to give good customer service, you'll have to work hard. To please a good-paying customer, you may have to do a project again or make it better. This is what makes you different from everyone else.
If you are happy with the way things are, that's fine too. Just don't think that people will be knocking down on your door to hire you. At least, the good customers won't!
