What would we do if we didn't have societal norms? Everywhere we look, we come up with another generalisation. Take the relationship between college students and their credit cards as an example. We all seem to believe that no student can handle his or her own money, which is a common stereotype. We think that someone who is still a teenager won't be smart enough to know when to stop spending. Now, does that describe the millions of students who live in our world? I don't think so. When I've worked with younger people, I've found that a lot of them are very well-grounded and ready to take care of their bills in a good way.
Of course, not every young person may be ready for the world of credit cards. That takes some getting used to, for sure. There is a lot of jargon that needs to be broken down. So many rules have to be followed. There are so many bills that need to be paid every month. On top of all that, a credit card makes it very easy to buy things and pay bills. When you move away from home and start living on campus, the freedom you have can feel great. But this newfound freedom can also make a person change their whole way of life and spend like crazy.
College is not at all like high school. If you aren't ready for it, it can be a big surprise. Credit cards are one of the things that make this newness possible. Because of this, more and more colleges are teaching their students about the good and bad things about credit. And they are not the only ones. Credit card companies also don't want to be called opportunistic anymore. They have also made courses (some of which are certified) to teach young people about the different ways to use credit.
Many young people act as if credit cards let them get money for free. Teenagers can learn about credit cards in a variety of ways through financial education classes. If a college student uses his or her card wisely, he or she could get some great rewards from it. Credit card debts can be caused by careless use of credit cards. Before they regularly go over budget, students should know about this risk. A bad credit history can follow someone around for years. The key is to know how to use credit cards well.
