If you have ADD or ADHD, you may tend to think negatively about yourself. That's wrong! Don't think about what's wrong. Turn the traits of ADD around and look at them in a good way. When you do that, you'll be a happier person and your life will be better. Allow me to show you...
First, "impulsivity" is a trait that is often linked to ADD. So? You can make quick decisions. And you're not impulsive if you can think quickly in a tough situation and make a quick decision. You're decisive! Think about a big stock purchase that your company might want to make. The price is low, but something happened that made the stock start to go up. As soon as you see this, you quickly figure out what's going on, and bang! You buy the stock, which makes the company $10,000,000. Your quick action just saved the day. Be careful about how you weigh the factors, though. It's not a good idea to buy a Ferrari on a whim. In the case of buying stocks, you saw a sign that the price was going up, so it was smart to buy.
That is also part of your ADD. Because you pay attention to everything around you, you notice when things change. Some people call that "distractibility," but in this case, it was great that you noticed a small change. People who keep an eye on things or run systems need to be aware of small changes as well. In these situations, being "distractable," as most people call it, can be a good thing.
Hyperactivity isn't always a bad thing. When you turn on your ADD "hyperfocus" jets, you are full of life and energy and can really get a project done quickly. Imagine you have to meet this deadline and your job depends on it. When you meet the deadline and keep your job, you'll definitely see hyperfocus as a good thing, right? The only bad thing about this is that you might forget about your own health. Don't forget to work, eat, and sleep. Even when you're not mad, you're not very fun to be around.
Yet, you are a likeable person, no doubt. You're so creative that you're always thinking of new things to do and ideas to try. So many people without ADD have dull jobs and dull lives. They've just forgotten how to have fun. Not you! You probably have a great sense of humour and bring the party to life with your jokes. But when it comes to relationships, use your ability to notice small changes. Most people who don't have ADD don't really understand it, so you may have upset them with something you said or did, even though you didn't mean to. Fix any misunderstandings quickly, and you'll be great.
Don't let what people say about you "label" you. You're great! When you stop focusing on the bad things and start seeing the good things about yourself, you will be a much happier person and your life will be happier, too.
