I'm going to give you eight quick tips and ideas that will help you improve your copywriting skills a lot as you start out.
You can use these tips to make sales letters, offers, and emails that get people's attention.
Here they are, without further ado!
First of all:
Always think about the person when you write a sales letter.
When you write a sales letter or an email, you should write it as if you were talking to one person.
The second:
Get their attention with the first sentence.
You have to catch the reader's attention from the very first line.
The third one:
Use bullets.
People like to scan and read quickly, and using bullets makes that a lot easier. So do that.
The fourth:
Just go with the flow.
When you first start writing a letter, it's hard to just start at the top and write everything down. When it's time to write it down and put everything in the right order, I want you to just write as it comes out. You'll get ideas that will make your pen fly or your fingers fly across the keyboard, and I want you to just let it flow.
Number five:
Write like you speak.
I touched on this briefly in one of the first points. But it's much easier to imagine talking to one person as if you were having a conversation with that person. When that person reads your sales letter or E-mail, they'll feel like you're talking directly to them, which is exactly what you want.
The sixth:
Make sure your writing is easy to read.
I mean that you should write short paragraphs. Use pictures. I want you to put some things in bold. I want you to draw attention to the important parts.
Number seven:
I want you to talk more about the benefits than the features.
I want you to put yourself in the place of the person who will read your message.
The most important question they will ask is, "What's in it for me?" You have to talk about these things and emphasise the good things about the communication piece you're trying to use.
Number eight:
I'd like you to keep the reader's attention.
How does that work? There are a lot of ways to keep the reader interested in a sales letter, and I'll tell you a few of them right now.
- You can use graphs.
- You can use pictures.
- You can use audio.
- You can use video.
Testimonials are another thing that people love to see.
- Giving proof by example is another one you can always use.
Have you got checks?
- Do you have screenshots of people signing up for different things?
I want you to show proof that whatever you're trying to sell or promote works or will help the person who is reading it. Screen shots, pictures, and testimonials are all great ways to show proof.
So, there you have it: 8 quick tips to help you write better copy. This isn't everything you need to know about copywriting, but these tips will help you get over some of the obstacles in your way.
