Too often, bloggers say that after a great start, their blog is pretty much dead after a year. This is a common problem that usually comes down to a small list of mistakes the blogger usually makes. A blogger can sit back and expect the blog to do all the work for him or her, which is a terrible way to go about blogging. A successful blogger would tell you that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to make a blog work well. To keep a blog going, you have to work at it, especially after the first month or so when the design is done. Many people work so hard at the beginning of the design process that they become lazy once it's done. Check out these five common mistakes that can kill a blog to keep this from happening to yours.
Infrequent Updates
"Forgetting" to post is one of the worst things a blogger can do. Most of the most popular blogs have new posts at least once a day. Some of the bigger blogs are always getting new posts. You should try to make as many new posts as you can. It won't matter if you miss a day here and there. But if you don't post for a week or more, you might as well think that the blog is dead. You need to spend a few minutes, even just five minutes a day, making posts or content that is interesting. If you're writing posts that are short and to the point, this shouldn't be too hard. If you make it a priority, it's easy to keep your blog up to date.
There's too much marketing.
Most bloggers want to make money from their blog these days. This is a trend that can quickly get out of hand, though. If you want to put ads on your blog, you should be careful. There's nothing wrong with putting a few ads on your blog that link to places that are related to what you write about. Adding a lot of ads to your blog, on the other hand, is a mistake. If your blog has a lot of flashy ads, the content will get lost in all the noise. Because of this, you should never have more than three ads on a page. Make sure you put them in the right spots so that your content can stand out. Don't let huge ads take up your whole page either. They will only bother people. Use your head when you put ads on your blog.
Look Not Professional
The way your blog looks is important. More people will take you seriously if your blog looks clean and professional. If you want to get more people to visit your blog, you should try making it look more professional. If you can pay for it, you should hire a professional. But if you do it yourself, you need to make sure the end result is good. If your blog looks sloppy and "homemade," you probably won't get many comments. Try out different layouts and ways of doing things to see what gets the most people to your site.
Too Many Pictures
Adding pictures to your blog can add a lot and bring in more readers. But too many pictures, like too many ads, can make people turn away. One of the main reasons why too many pictures can ruin a blog is that many people still use slow internet connections. When they try to load your page, it will take them way too long. This will probably make them and anyone else with the same problem leave. Try to keep each page to just a few pictures.
Inappropriate Content
Everyone knows that you can say whatever you want on the Internet. But if you want your blog to stay up and running, you might want to think about that freedom of speech. You should always say what you think, but on your blog, you can do so in a good way. There are ways to say what you want to say without using swear words or offensive language. If you want your blog to do well, you can't post things that aren't appropriate.
