Do you ever feel like your mind is like a TV station you can't quite tune in to? You know there's an interesting show on, or maybe more than one, but all you hear is static. What if you could choose when to "tune in" and have clear thinking? Try some of the things below.
Ten Ways to Think Clearly and Tips
- Take care of your body's needs. If you aren't too hungry, thirsty, or hot, it's easier to think straight.
- Get better sleep. Different people need different amounts of sleep, but most need at least five hours. Some people get sick if they don't sleep at least eight hours. Research, on the other hand, shows that after a certain minimum amount of sleep, the quality of sleep is more important for the brain to work well.
- Go outside and breathe. Go outside and take deep nose breaths. You'll get a lot of oxygen to your brain, and the change of scenery can help you think more clearly.
- Take a walk. Science will show in the future that this is a great way to improve your thinking, but don't wait for the proof. Isn't there already enough reason to go for a walk?
- Don't drink alcohol. Don't drink too much, though. Even though it can help you think of new ideas in small amounts, all the evidence shows that it is bad for your brain's long-term health.
- Stay away from sugar. If you want to know what brain fog is like, eat a sugary donut on an empty stomach and then do math problems twenty minutes later. Along with the "sugar blues," you will also have brain fog. At least stay away from sugar and simple carbs when you need to be able to think straight.
- Get rid of your "mind annoyances." Watch out for your busy mind. Maybe you've been nagging at the back of your mind about a call you need to make. Find the things that stress you out and do something to get rid of them. For example, if you make that call or write it down, your mind will stop thinking about it for now. Seeing a problem and telling yourself, "I can't do anything about this until Friday," is often enough to stop your mind from worrying.
- A clean space makes it easier to think. People rarely work better when there is a lot going on around them. When your workspace is clean and organized, you won't be thinking, "Where did I put that?"
- Try to meditate. No time? Just close your eyes, take a deep breath, and watch it for a while. Accept that your mind will wander, but bring it back to your breath over and over again. After five minutes of this, you'll feel like your brain is working better.
- Choose things quickly. Nothing makes it hard to think clearly like having a dozen decisions you haven't made yet. if you can't decide what to do, at least decide when you'll decide.
You can start to think more clearly today. There are more than ten ways, but you only need to do a few of them regularly to make your brain stronger. Why not give one or two a try right away?
