Shadow of an Indian Star is a historical fiction book with 500 pages that takes place in the early 1800s. It brings to life a fascinating time when people shot guns, drank in saloons, worked hard, lived in rough conditions, and fell in love. During this chaotic time, the stories of heroes, villains, and people just trying to stay alive will keep readers eager to turn the page.
Famous historical figures like Billy the Kid and General Custer made brief appearances in family stories. These stories were told from one generation to the next until Bill Paul and his wife Cindy were curious enough to find out if they were true. The stories turned out to be true!
People who like maps will like the insert in the first few pages. It shows where this story takes place. The history of the Paul family is broken up into three parts, one for each generation, and each part tells about a bitter family fight. On the last page, there is a simple family tree.
History classes could learn a lot from reading about the Chickasaw Nation, an American Indian tribe, and the lives of the first people to move to Oklahoma. Readers will learn about the Trail of Tears and see how settlers were cruel and greedy, and how the government was bad. Readers will also see the grace and pride of both groups in the way they are openly kind to each other, show real sorrow for each other, and have intense relationships with people of different races.
Bill and Cindy Paul are both well-educated people who write books. Bill has a degree in animal science, and Cindy has degrees in both biology and environmental science. The couple lives in the same valley where they wrote about in their first book, Shadow of an Indian Star. They also take care of the family graveyard.
I am completely amazed by how well the authors can write and tell a story.
This story was amazing, and I had a great time listening to it. I'm sure that this book needs to be read by people who make movies and TV shows.
