How to avoid making the most common mistakes and pitfalls on your resume
Resume Pitfalls to Avoid
Spelling and grammar are simple things that are often overlooked. These mistakes show how careless and lazy the person is. Before you send out your resume, make sure it is checked for spelling and grammar mistakes. Someone who is not part of your team can point out mistakes that you have missed several times. Make sure you don't use too many abbreviations, slang words, or words that sound the same.
- Too Long: Employers look at a lot of resumes. Don't get off-topic. If a resume is too long, it probably has a lot of information that isn't important. Stay on topic and don't go over one page. You don't have to write full sentences or paragraphs.
- Difficult to Read: Pay attention to the type of font, the color of paper, asterisks, and bullets. Make sure it reads well and flows. The person reading your resume shouldn't have to work hard to get through it. Try to say as much as you can using as few words as you can.
- Specific to the job: If your resume is too general, it will look like you'll take any job you can get. You're trying to find the right person for a certain job in a company. One for which you have more skills than the other candidates. To do this, you need to be clear about what you disagree with and what you have done.
- Information That Isn't Necessary: Don't include information about your marriage, children, religion, height, weight, etc.
- Too humble: Your resume is a way to sell yourself. Be brave and sure of yourself without being arrogant or condescending. Make sure that your resume is true and full of facts. There are a lot of people who want the job, so make sure your resume stands out.
