The motor homes and RVs of today have everything you'd want in a home. If you have the money, they have plasma TVs, washers and dryers, ceramic tile floors, granite countertops, and professionally designed spaces.
The Type A, or recreational vehicle, is the most well-known type of motor home. This motor home has the most space, is the largest, and costs the most. They have everything on the list above and more. Some RVs have large garden/tub showers and stained glass made just for them. Recreational vehicles can be as long as 45 feet and cost between $85,000 for a used one and $400,000 for a new one. Don't forget that they get about 5–8 miles per gallon. This is another thing to think about. If you can't afford that much gas, you might want to look into a different type of motor home.
Van campers and travel trailers are both types of Type B motor homes. Most van campers are 18 to 22 feet long and have enough room for four people to sleep. A van camper that comes with everything you need can have a shower, toilet, kitchen, TV, couches, and beds. There is less privacy than in a travel trailer or recreational vehicle because the beds are close together. Most only have enough head room for someone to stand up straight in the middle of the car. They are much smaller than Type A motor homes and have less space to store things. The prices for the van campers range from $43,000 to $70,000.
The lengths of travel trailers range from 16 feet to 38 feet. They can cost anywhere from $6,000 for a used trailer to $45,000 for a new one. Most travel trailers come with a pretty wide range of amenities. The bigger the room, the more people you can sleep and the more likely it is that you will have your own bedroom.
A lot of travellers like that they can leave their travel trailer at a trailer park and drive around the area in their car. It takes a lot of practise, though, to learn how to drive with a travel trailer hooked up to the back of your SUV.
When you want to buy a new motor home, you have to think about some of the same things you have to think about when you want to buy a new car. Don't forget that a dealer can take advantage of a customer who doesn't know much. Do your homework. Before you go to the dealership, you should know how much you should pay. Ask to see the MSRP, which is the manufacturer's suggested retail price. Don't forget that manufacturers give dealers nice incentives, so dealers can mark up prices by 15% to 35%.
Don't agree to the first deal you're given. Go to two or three car lots. Make sure the place you buy your motor home from has good service after the sale. When you're buying a motor home, many dealers are your best friends. After they've sold you the RV, they don't want to hear from you anymore. Talk to the Better Business Bureau and people you know who own motor homes.
