Before you buy a motor home, you need to know a few things. There are different types of motor homes or recreational vehicles (RVs) that have engines. Two of these classes, class A and class C motor homes, are often confused with each other. To tell if a motor home is class A or class C, you have to look at how it looks. Class A motor homes have a flat or vertical front end and big windows, like a bus. Class C motor homes, on the other hand, have a truck cab with a bed over the cab, like a camper.
Class A motor homes are thought to be the best. They can be as long as 40 feet or 12 metres and are about 24 feet long. Their weight can be anywhere from 15,000 to 30,000 pounds (6,804 to 13,608 kg), and their undercarriage can be made to order or a 3–10 tonne truck chassis. Class A motor homes have every luxury you can think of, like a kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and a tub, and sometimes a separate bedroom in the back, depending on the floor plan of the truck. They also have heat and air conditioning, running hot and cold water, an electrical system with 100-125 volts, a dinette or living room area with a couch and recliners, closets, and an entertainment centre. This is only the very beginning. Some of these motor homes are even fancier than some homes.
Most of the time, famous bands use Class A motor homes, especially when they are on tour. Some wealthy families also have Class A motor homes that they use for vacations and other trips. Those who can pay the high price for a Class A motor home will love it. Most Class A motor homes have an all-leather interior, a wet bar, big-screen TVs, an advanced sound system, and other high-tech features that families with less money may not be able to afford.
A class A RV can fit up to 8 people, depending on the model and floor plan. But there is a cost to all of this luxury. New, lower-end models can cost up to $50,000 US, while larger, much nicer class A RVs can cost more than any house in many states at $300,000 or more. Class A RVs are really expensive. Even used Class A RVs can still be sold for $30,000 to $40,000. If you like high-end RVs, you may want to start saving around $325,000 and go up to over $1 million if you want the best of the best.
Class C motor homes are last, but not least. Class C motor homes can also be very expensive or cheap, depending on how much money you want to spend. They are much lighter, weighing between 10,000 and 15,000 pounds, and are usually between 20 and 44 feet long. Depending on the model, they are built on cutaway frames. Most of the time, the cab is like the one on a truck, with a bunk above and a bedroom in the back. Like Class A motor homes, Class C motor homes have all the comforts of home, such as a kitchen, bathroom, dinette, heating and cooling system, and, for an extra fee, an entertainment centre.
Dinettes aren't always part of class C motor homes, and if they are, they usually turn into double beds. If there isn't a dinette, there are two captain chairs instead. Instead of captain chairs, some motor homes have a couch and chairs. The couch can also be used as a place to sleep.
Because of the overcab bed, a Class C motor home can sleep up to 10 people, which is more than a comparable Class A motor home. Class C motor homes cost between $50,000 and $170,000.
Class A and Class C motor homes both have a slide-out, which is a wall in the living room that moves outwards when you push a button. This adds a few inches to the living space.
Class B motor homes, which are also called van conversions, are another type of RV. Class B motor homes look like camper vans with a pop-up top. They have everything they need inside, but they are smaller than big motor homes. If you don't want a big motor home, you might want to buy a Class B motor home because it is easier to drive and is smaller. Most of the time, they are advertised as a place to sleep more than as a place that most people would find comfortable. You can also use the class B motor home as a second car. It costs between $38,000 and $75,000.
Motor homes are great for camping, road trips, or just living in style. If you want to buy a motor home, you should compare prices and do research first because they can be very expensive.
