CNBC's 2007 Million Dollar Portfolio started on March 5. Every week, the person who has made the most money will get $10,000. The first part of the contest will end on May 14. CNBC will give each of the top ten players and the top ten weekly winners a fake $1 million. At the end of two weeks, the person in this group whose portfolio is worth the most money will get a million dollars.
So, what do you have to do to win the CNBC Portfolio Challenge? Well, you can start by looking at the winner from last year. Even though it was called the Squawk Box Fantasy Portfolio Challenge last year, the goal was the same. At the end of the Fantasy Portfolio Challenge, Thomas Ko's portfolio was worth more than $5 million, which made him the winner. He did this by putting all of his money into individual stocks and riding those stocks to the top of the challenge. Even though CNBC didn't give away a million dollars last year, Ko did win a brand-new 2006 Maserati GranSport that was part of a limited edition. Ko was also invited to their Money Strategy Lab by MSN.
You start the CNBC challenge with a million dollars, and you can earn up to 15,000 more dollars each week to add to your portfolio. To do this, you have to answer two questions right every day. The first question is called the "video trivia question," and it's worth two thousand dollars every day. The second question is about the news and is worth a thousand dollars. If you answer these questions correctly every day during the contest, you could win an extra $150,000!
