If you're going to buy new furniture for your living room, you've probably already thought about how it will be set up. If not, you've probably thought about putting the new pieces in the same place as the old ones. In this article, I'll show you a simple way to set up your living room in the best way possible.
There are a few things we need to think about before we start. A living room is always a place where people come and go. This means that the living room is where all the doors to the other rooms are. The living room is the way to get to the other bedrooms, dining room, kitchen, etc., so there must be enough "circulation space" for the family.
So, here's what you can do to make the best use of a living room's space.
- Get a white piece of paper. The A4 size is also fine.
- Doors that lead to other rooms
- Entrance door
- Minor column projections (if any)
- Let the doors swing open (inside or outside the living room)
- There are stairs there
- Positions of window
- Now, start putting things like a 3-seat sofa, a single- or double-seat sofa, a coffee table, end tables with lamps, bookshelves, a TV unit, etc., in their places. You can choose any number of these units based on how much money you have.
- Use this paper to make a sketch of your living room. When you draw this plan, it's important to include the following.
- Fireplace (if any)
- Use a pencil to draw lines from the front door to all the other doors and windows. This is the most natural way for anyone to move through the living room. If the room is empty and there are no pieces of furniture in it, these are the lines anyone would walk to get to another part of the living room.
When putting these units in place, it will always be clear that the furniture blocks the pencil travel lines drawn in the third step. But for now, that's fine. Now, put the furniture units together in as many different ways as you can. Don't just do what you've always done. Try doing something else.
Remember that if you try, you can come up with at least 10 different ways to arrange that living room. You'll be amazed at how many different ways things can go. Also think about the furniture you already have or if you could switch the table in your bedroom with the one in your living room.
How about putting it in the plan vertically instead of horizontally? No matter what you do, remember this. Always make sure that people can move freely. If you are talking to someone in the living room, people from other rooms must be able to walk through without blocking your view.
That's why those lines have been made with a pencil. After you've drawn the pieces of furniture on the plan for the living room, you can change the travel lines. Now, these lines will be around the furniture, especially at the corners. At the edges, the travel lines will now look like the furniture.
When you're done with this short exercise, you'll probably have 5 different layouts on paper. Choose the one where you see the following interesting things.
The lengths of travel lines are the shortest.
- The furniture is not in the way of travel lines.
When arranging furniture, there is something called "visual balance" that is just as important as how well it works. Lastly, do YOU like how it looks? How do you feel about the final layout? Visual balance is achieved by making the most of all the walls in the living room with things like paintings, colour schemes, and other decorations.
So, if you start with a plan and stick to it, you will definitely be able to make a beautiful living room as quickly as possible. I hope this article has given you ideas for how to do this job better and more creatively.
