In most states, you can get affordable health insurance through an employer who offers a health benefits package. Ohio is no different. But not all employers give their workers health benefits packages, and they aren't legally required to. Also, some people have one or two part-time jobs, but because they don't work enough hours, they can't get health insurance from either of them. In other words, they don't work full time, so their employers don't think they're valuable enough to insure.
There are two other ways to get affordable health insurance, or at least coverage for medical costs, in Ohio besides buying an individual policy, which is usually more expensive than buying into a group policy like one offered by an employer. Either you can get help from the state, or you can buy a group policy through an employer.
Buying a major medical policy with a high deductible is one way to get cheap health insurance in Ohio. Of course, these types of health insurance policies don't usually cover regular trips to the doctor. However, they do cover major medical costs like visits to the emergency room, hospital stays, and surgeries. Plus, because the deductible is higher, they are cheaper than regular health insurance.
Setting up a Health Savings Account, or HSA, is another way for people in Ohio to get affordable health insurance. HSAs aren't health insurance policies per se, but they do allow you to save money along the way should you need to visit a doctor, be medically treated, or pay for any other health service.
Don't give up if you can't find affordable health insurance through your employer in Ohio or any other state. In addition to buying a package for yourself or getting help from the government, you can also buy a major medical policy or start an HSA to help pay for some of your health costs.
