The weather is bad for the outside of a house. In fact, maintenance services cost Americans more than $4.8 billion each year. The best time for homeowners to plan to paint their homes again is in the spring. The outside of your home is the first thing that people see, and a good paint job is very important to how it looks.
Ed Waller, one of the people who started Certa-Pro Painters, talks about how to paint the outside of your home and how to make the job easier.
First, take a look at how your house is doing. Look for surfaces that are made of bare wood, metal, or brick. There, the paint is worn and you need a new coat, or there are other problems, like moisture, that a professional painter should look at for you.
Use a cleaning solution to get dirt off of your siding. Scrub well and wash it well.
If you're going to paint your house, get it ready well. Some loose paint is easy to spot, and some is hard to see.
Buy the best paint you can for the outside of your home. The best paint will hold up better to the weather than cheaper paint, and in the long run, it might even save you money. The same is true for rollers and brushes.
On a sunny day, be sure to paint in the shade. Painting in the sun can cause the paint to dry too fast and blister.
• Brush first, then roll. Last, paint the trim.
