I'm happy to be a married woman. I've been married to my wife for almost 8 years, and we've been together for 12 years all together. I haven't been on a date in a long time, as you can see, and I couldn't be happier. Back when I was dating, I thought it was hard. Now that there are so many more things to think about, it must be even harder.
Online dating is getting more and more popular, and it seems like it would make the process easier in theory. But if you hear about people in the news who do crimes you've never heard of, how can you be sure that the person you meet online is really that person?
How can you be sure that the people you see on dating websites like eHarmony.com, date.com, match.com, and many others are really who they say they are?
As long as you can sort through all the weirdos and find some good people, the service is a great idea. You get to decide what you want in a partner. You can look at pictures of them and read about them. You can get in touch with them ahead of time through email, which is the safest way to find dates. If sending emails works well, you can move on to calling people. If all of these steps go well and you both feel like there's something between you, you can set up a date.
Even more, eHarmony.com makes a profile of your personality so they can match you with the person they think is your best match. I don't know anyone who has used this eHarmony service. Several of the people I know have used match.com. They found a lot of dates, so the system worked the way it was supposed to. The dates didn't lead to any marriages, but I think that had more to do with how ready my friends were to settle down with someone.
If you want to meet someone, there is no limit to what you can find. When I did research for my website on this topic, I found so many different options. This article has already talked about some simple websites where people just want to meet new people. There are websites where gay people can meet gay people, black people can meet black people, Asian people can meet Asian people, and people of different religions can meet people of the same religion. People who were already married and looking for someone to "hook up" with was probably the most surprising and disturbing thing I saw. For obvious reasons, I didn't put any of these sites on my website, but there were dozens of them out there.
Given how much dating has changed in the last 12 years, I don't even want to think about what it will be like for my daughter when she starts dating.
