Willard Christopher Smith Jr., better known as Will Smith, was born on September 25, 1968. He has won a Grammy for his rap music and has been nominated for an Oscar. He is one of the few people who have been successful in music, TV, movies, and other forms of entertainment.
Will Smith got his start in the music business by starting a rap duo with a childhood friend, DJ Jazzy Jeff. Most of their hip-hop was funny and easy to play on the radio. "Parents Just Don't Understand" and "Summertime" are their most famous songs. He was called "the fresh prince" in high school. In 1988, they were the first rappers to win a Grammy. After his rap career slowed down in 1990, he became the star of an NBC sitcom called "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air." From the early to mid-1990s, this show was a huge hit, and he played the lead role.
In the movie Bad Boys, he and Martin Lawrence both played action hero cops. This was his first big movie role (1995). The "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" story ended when "Bad Boys" became a huge hit. But he started getting more roles in movies like Independence Day (1996), Men in Black (1997), Enemy of the State (1998), Wild Wild West (1999), Ali (2001), Men in Black II (2002), Bad Boys II (2003), I Robot (2004), Shark Tale (2004), and Hitch (2005). He was also in the running to play Neo in the popular science fiction movie "The Matrix."
