On Monday, when the Minnesota Timberwolves were playing the Memphis Grizzlies, forward Kevin Garnett was upset that he was called for an offensive foul. As a result, he threw the ball into the first few rows under the basket. The ball hit a male fan, who was taken away on a wheel chair to the sound of loud boos. Even though it looked like the fan wasn't hurt, Garnett was kicked out of the game. The NBA fined him $5,000 today.
The NBA also fined Garnett's teammate Ricky Davis $5,000 for kicking a ball into the crowd during Friday's loss to the Denver Nuggets.
Rasheed Wallace, a forward for the Detroit Pistons, was also fined today for throwing an elbow at Zydrunas Ilgauskas, the centre for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Ilgauskas needed five stitches to stop the bleeding on his forehead. When Ilgauskas drove to the basket in the first quarter of the game on Sunday, this happened. Wallace was given a flagrant foul, which the NBA later changed to a flagrant foul two.
Wallace didn't seem to deny that the elbow was on purpose when he said, "I'm not going to start the game by hitting a cat in the head if I don't get elbowed first."
Ilgauskas said, when asked if Wallace should have been fired, "I can't decide. You just let the league decide."
Wallace and Ilgauskas will play against each other again Monday night in Cleveland, when the Pistons and Cavs play.
