Instead of giving your mom a boring gift for Mother's Day this year, why not make her a bouquet of cookies? They can be made quickly and easily, and they look great.
The best thing about making your mom a cookie bouquet is that she will love you so much for it. Cookie bouquets are great gifts any time of year, but they are especially nice for Mother's Day because your mom will know you put time into it and didn't just go to the store and spend 2 minutes looking for some chocolate to buy:)
A lot of cookie bouquets are simple and only contain cookies. I like to give my bouquets a little more style, so I'm going to show you how to make a fancier bouquet with cookies, leaves, and candies.
You'll need to:
- Nine big chocolate chip cookies
- Seven wrapped sweets
- Wire for florists
- Cellophane (Any color, although I use clear)
Ribbons
- Stem-tape
- 15 Leaves
Step one is to wire and tape the leaves.
Wire and tape the leaves to start...
To wire a silk leaf, you push floristry wire through the part of the leaf made of silk that is behind the stem. Then loop it around, go back through the leaf, and bend the wire back down.
Hold the wire in your left hand and use your right hand to wrap the stem tape around the wire. Make sure that the stem tape goes all the way up to the top of the leaf.
Step 2: Make the cookies that will go in the cookie bouquet.
The cookies don't have to be wrapped, but I like to because it helps them stay fresh. I'd rather have a cookie bouquet that doesn't have to be eaten right away, so that people can leave it on the table for everyone to look at without worrying about the cookies going bad.
Make 9 squares out of the cellophane. Make sure the squares of cellophane are big enough to cover the cookies.
Then twist the end of the cellophane and wrap it around the cookies.
Then wrap the cellophane with wire and tape, and cut off any extra cellophane.
Step 3: Get the candies ready to add to the bouquet of cookies.
Wrap the candy with wire and stem tape. Depending on the candies you used, you might have to wrap them in cellophane, just like you did with the cookies.
Step 4: Spread out the cookies in a bouquet shape.
Hold the cookies in one hand as a group. Then, make a small bend in the wire to spread the cookies out. This will leave spaces for the leaves, which we will add in the next step...
Step 5: Add leaves to the cookies to make a bouquet.
Fill in the gaps in the bouquet with the leaves. Spread the leaves out so that they form a circle. Then give the bunch a little squeeze. (But don't make it too tight, because we still have to put the candy in...)
Step 6: Add the candies to the bouquet of cookies.
Fill in the gaps with the candies you made in step 3. Try to keep the bouquet symmetrical, but don't worry about making it perfect. A little bit of unevenness will make the cookie bouquet look more natural.
Step 7: Put tape on the handle.
To finish the cookie bouquet, just cut the ends of the wires in the handle so they are all the same length, and then stem-tape the handle.
So, now you have a bouquet of cookies ready to give to your mom. Write a nice message on a Mother's Day card, give it to your mom with a bouquet of cookies and a kiss on the cheek, and you'll be in her good graces for at least a few months.
