You've thought about it for a while and decided you're ready for your own credit card. You read all the credit card offers that have been sent to you by email and snail mail. You've looked into the customer rewards. You know everything there is to know about APR, grace periods, and balance transfers. After you've looked over all of this information and decided what to do, it's time to choose how to apply for your card.
There are basically only two ways to get a credit card. You can fill out the mail-in application at your desk, put it in an envelope with postage paid by the addressee, drive it to the post office, and mail it. After three weeks, you'll get a letter telling you that you forgot to include the check with the application fee, and you'll have to do the whole thing over again.
There is something comforting about this system, in which the application is filled out by hand and mailed. A sense of carrying on a time-honored tradition, since your parents and grandparents did the same thing when they got their credits. Even your great-great-great-grandparents might have used the Pony Express to apply for a Sears Roebuck credit card. And if people in the stone age had credit cards, your ancestors from a long time ago probably sent in their applications by mail.
We're past that point now. We can now apply for a credit card online, which is very convenient. Get what you want right away! When you fill out an online application, you get a response in your e-mail almost before you're done filling it out.
It couldn't be easier to apply for a credit card online. As an added bonus, it's free to apply for a credit card online. When you apply for credit online, most credit companies don't charge an application fee.
Going to the company's website is the easiest way. Go to the company's website and click on the link that says "Apply now." This link should take you to the application.
Even though each company's application looks a little bit different, you'll be asked for your first and last name, address, age, date of birth, mother's maiden name, phone number, social security number, and how long you've lived at your current address pretty early on.
Again, each credit card company has a slightly different application, but the next section you'll probably see is about work: where you work, what you do, how much you make, your boss's phone number, and how long you've been working there.
The next part is the information about money. How much do you make a year? What kind of account do you have at the bank? What bank do you use? Do you own or rent your home? How much does that cost you every month? All of this information should already be in your desk drawer.
You might be asked if you want to transfer the balance of any accounts to the card you are applying for.
After that, you click the "Submit" button. After that, you'll be asked to look over the rules. After you do that and check the small box to confirm, you will be asked to give permission for a credit check. After this is approved, you'll be asked to look over your application and make sure that everything is correct. After this, all you have to do is sit back and wait for the answer to come to your email. It shouldn't take more than a few days.
You just signed up for a credit card online for free.
Best of luck!
