Have you noticed that doctors are much less likely to write you a prescription for antibiotics unless you can prove you have a bacterial infection? Well, I wish I could say, "Better late than never," but we're way too late when it comes to antibiotics.
Once upon a time, antibiotics were called a modern miracle, and they did save lives. The problem is that they have been used too much, and not just for bacterial infections but for everything that doctors didn't know how to treat. Even if the illness was caused by a virus, we were always given antibiotics, so we could go home happy and feel like the doctor had helped us get better.
The truth is that we would have been much better off if we hadn't been given antibiotics for every sickness we had. Our immune systems would have been much better off if we had stayed home and rested, drank a lot of water, and used herbal, homeopathic, and whole food supplements to boost them.
Since antibiotics have been overused so much, superbugs have developed that leave us vulnerable and helpless, UNLESS your immune system is strong because you and your pets have been eating natural foods, using whole food and natural supplements, and exercising, so that your body is naturally protected.
By relying so much on antibiotics and steroids as cure-alls, which will be talked about in more detail in a later article, we have weakened our immune systems and those of our pets, leaving them wide open to these superbugs that keep coming up all the time.
"Our culture is used to quick fixes and band-aid solutions. We know from experience that this usually only gives short-term relief and can even cause symptoms or side effects to come back or get worse. Complementary medicine, especially homeopathy and herbs, can be a big part of how well our animals are raised. Homeopathy and herbs are basically natural ways to heal that use remedies to help the patient get better by boosting the body's own healing abilities. They focus on taking care of the person, not the disease." Marina Zacharias wrote Healthy Breeding with Herbs and Homeopathy.
The good news is that there are other ways to keep our pets healthy and strong so they can fight off these superbugs. First, if you go to a homeopathic or holistic vet, you can talk to them about what you can do to keep your pet in the best health. Each animal is just as unique as each person. You will be ahead of the game if you care for your pets in a holistic way, which means you take care of the whole animal instead of waiting to treat a specific problem.
By giving your pet natural food, like a raw food diet for cats and dogs, and adding whole food supplements, prebiotics, and probiotics, you won't have to worry about antibiotics and their harmful side effects.
Not only can superbugs spread from animals to humans, but I know of one called MRSA that can only spread from humans to animals. Even though it's not as obvious in the US, it's quickly becoming a problem there. It is a superbug, a bacterial infection that has grown because antibiotics have been used too much. A new friend of mine, Bella, a beautiful Samoyed dog, died because of this terrible bacteria. Bella was her friend and companion.
Are Antibiotics Making Your Pet Sick? was written by Jesse Dallas. creates "The intestinal tract should have about 80 percent good bacteria and about 20 percent bad bacteria. When antibiotics are used, the body will have no more than 20% good bacteria and at least 80% bad bacteria.
-Most diseases, illnesses, and problems start in the gut. So, antibiotics make it possible for serious diseases to start.
-You may not be giving your pet antibiotics, but if it has ever eaten food with preservatives, you have been giving it what I call "hidden antibiotics." Preservatives are meant to stop bacteria from growing, and if your pet eats food with preservatives, it will eventually kill the good bacteria in the digestive tract.
After taking antibiotics, you should expect it to take at least a year for the gut to be repopulated with good bacteria.
-Repopulate the gut with good bacteria by taking supplements and eating healthy foods.
Now is the time to take charge and make a change. We can and will make a difference if we don't give up and do something about our own lives and the lives of our pets.
Therapeutic-grade essential oils are another thing that gives us a lot of hope and makes me want to jump for joy. In 1985, Dr. Jean-Claude Lapraz, MD, tested the "antibiotic-like" effects of the therapeutic grade essential oils of oregano and cinnamon. He found that not a single bacteria or virus can live when these oils are around.
I've gone that way for myself, my family, and my pets, and I hope you'll think about doing the same.
