I've been fighting for affordable health care for everyone for a long time, and some people think of me as an expert in this field. I have worked with people who are working, not working, and retired to help them get affordable health insurance. Let me tell you how the fight is going. Most people probably already know that it can be hard to get health insurance at a low price. Unless your employer covers you, or you are a civil servant, you will probobly be overpaying for your health care coverage, and possibly alot more than you would think. Because of this, many people all over the state and the country are stuck in dead-end jobs so they can keep their cheap health insurance. Even though they don't like their jobs or want to move up in their careers, they have to keep doing the same thing because if they quit, they'll lose their health insurance and be in a lot of trouble.
In this country, there are a lot of low-income children who don't have health insurance. Let's face it: even though the U.S. is the richest country in the world, we have failed many of our citizens, including children, by not giving them access to affordable health care, which is literally a matter of life and death for many. Without affordable health insurance and good nutrition, many of the poorest people are always sick and can't pay for their medical bills. They are always crushed by poverty because they can't pay what they owe.
Even though there are a lot of "reformers" who are actually industry insiders who say that all that is needed is a little reform to make medical insurance affordable, anyone who has been on the front lines like I have will tell you the truth. The best way to get cheap health insurance has been clear for a long time. We can't go on as a country without a single payer for health care any longer. With single-payer health care, everyone in the country will be sure to have health insurance at a good price, paid for by taxes. Some people say that adding a new service can be too expensive, but it will actually be much cheaper than paying private, for-profit businesses to insure us the way we do now. It could be the natural answer to all of the problems with low-cost health insurance that Americans face every day.
