You can't just wear a necktie if you don't know how to keep it in good shape so you can use it every time you get ready.
If you wear a necktie often, you will notice that it seems to "wear off" a little bit. It could be because you didn't take good care of it or because something happened that you couldn't stop, like food or drink getting spilled on your favourite tie.
How to take off your tie the right way
When you first learned how to tie a tie and got the first knot right, you might not have thought about how to take it off at the end of the day. You may want to make the loop big enough to pull your head out and hang the tied tie on a clothes hanger or over the back of the chair.
But that is the worst thing you can do with your necktie. You should instead untie your tie the right way. If you pay attention and do the opposite of what you did to tie the tie, you will save your favourite tie and the money you would have spent on a new tie every few days.
When you take off a tie made of thick, heavy silk, it may have wrinkles that make it look very old and used. To fix this, wrap the tie around your hand, put it on a table or in a drawer, and let it rest for a while. Here are the steps to take:
1. Hold the narrow end of your tie with your thumb and let the wide end hang down to the floor.
2. Wrap the wide end several times around your hand.
3. Put the wrapped-up tie on a flat surface.
To get rid of stains on a tie, which can sometimes ruin it for good, stain removers will make things worse. Take your favourite silk tie to the dry cleaner and ask for help with this.
