At some point in your life, you may wonder why some people are so good with money and you aren't. There are several answers, depending on how closely you look. Are these things you know?
- They just have better luck than I do.
- They went to a better school than I did.
- They came from a wealthy family.
- They are white and have more chances than me.
- They already had enough money to start a business.
- They already had money to put into real estate
- They know more than me
- I am older than them.
- I look worse than they do.
- I think they work harder than I do.
Most likely, the list goes on for a few more pages. The most common belief is about money, and the second most common belief is about relationships. I once ran a workshop where we talked about what people thought about money. We had 3 full pages after only 30 minutes!
Beliefs are like a blueprint for your life.
You might not know it yet, but what you believe is the plan for your life. If you knew that, would you choose one from the list above to make on purpose? Most likely not, because these ideas don't help at all. These beliefs create a reality that keeps you in the same place and makes you feel like a victim. Your life is not getting any better.
Why do we come up with these ideas in the first place if we know they are not helpful? The answer lies in the way we think and feel. Most of us were told that there is a universe out there, and that this universe shapes our reality. We believe that life just happens to us. Most of us see proof of these things several times a day. Because of this, the same message gets imprinted on our minds every day. The same old belief in the message.
As adults, we don't even realise that our lives "as they are" are based on a belief. It becomes a deep truth that we prove to ourselves over and over again.
So how do we get out of this mess? We need to step back and think about what we believe. Get a piece of paper and a pencil, and write down all of your money beliefs. Don't think too much, just go with the flow. When you run out of things you believe about money, think about what other people think.
Then, write a "I" or a "S" next to each belief, depending on whether it gets in the way or helps. Beliefs that get in the way of making money don't help, but beliefs that help do. Now, look at your list and count how many beliefs help and how many get in the way. How are you doing? How many of your beliefs get in your way and how many of your beliefs help you?
Changing the way people think
Realize that the beliefs that are holding you back do not help you make money. Now, get a new piece of paper and make a list of beliefs that will help you get the money you want. When you're done, go over each of your new beliefs and picture it in your mind. Think about this for at least 10 to 20 seconds. You might need some practise, but every time you do it, you'll get better at it. Do this exercise in a place that is quiet, calm, and relaxed. This will help you remember these beliefs.
Remember that what comes into your life is based on what you believe. With a little practise, you'll be ready for the next step, which is to feel your beliefs. Feel as if these new beliefs, which help you create what you really want, have already come true.
How does it feel to have a lot of money?
- What does it feel like to have a lot of things?
- What's it like to have more money than you know what to do with?
- What's it like to help other people?
- What's it like to buy something without looking at the price?
Stop what you're doing if you find yourself thinking or saying something that holds you back when it comes to money. Go back to a place in your mind where you remember a belief about money that you made up on purpose and connect with it. The more you do this, the more your mind will learn to think in a different way. A way that can help you get rich.
By the way, this method uses some ideas from quantum physics. But that's a different story...
