A flyer is a cheap and very effective way to get people's attention in a crowded market. How can you get your flyer to stand out? Here are some ways that professional designers make flyers really stand out.
Write a catchy title or headline.
Use a few strong words to make it memorable, unusual, or thought-provoking. Popular titles have one or more of the following words: Easy, The Secrets to, Unlock, Finally, Insider, Time Sensitive, How to, Free Bonuses, Now You Can, Discover, Proven.
Use graphics that are colorful or stand out.
One big picture will make a bigger impression than many small ones. A beautiful photo or drawing will grab people's attention, set the mood, and help your story. This picture is your "focal point," and it will get people's attention. You can find cheap stock photos of good quality on the Internet. You can download individual photos or buy a CD with a lot of pictures on it.
Talk about what your product or service can do for people.
Your potential customers will ask, "What's in it for me?" Use the words "you" and "your" to write from their point of view. Try not to use the words we, us, I, and our. Make sure your text is brief and gets to the point. Free, save, love, new, results, and guarantee are some of the most powerful words you can use. Use bullet points to break up long paragraphs and put them in their own box.
Use testimonials and case studies that make your point.
Nothing gets people's attention like a recommendation from a happy customer, especially if it shows how your product or service helped them. Make sure to include the person's first and last name, the name of their company, and where they work.
Put your page in order by using boxes, borders, and areas of different colors.
You don't have to put text and pictures all over your flyer. Add some white space to the flyer to make certain parts stand out and make it easy to read.
Make sure your points are clear.
Bold the titles and subtitles, but don't use ALL CAPS because it makes the text harder to read.
Don't make things too hard.
Use only two fonts and a grid to make it easy to read. Your page layout program will give you instructions that don't involve printing. Use the "snap to guidelines" feature to make it easy to line things up on the grid. Pay attention to the margins. I suggest that you make your layout with 1/2" margins on all sides, or add 1/8" for items that print off the edge of the page.
Do not forget to check for mistakes.
Have someone else proofread your work. Check your list of contacts. Make sure the phone numbers on the flyer are correct by calling them and make sure the URL of your website is correct by typing it in.
If you don't have much money, try this.
Use black ink and brightly colored or unusual paper. Use different shades of grey to make background areas with different tones.
On the bottom quarter of the flyer, make a coupon. Make sure to say clearly when the offer ends and what it can't do. If it's a mail-in coupon, make sure to include the payment details, such as where to put your credit card number, mailing address, etc.
You don't have to start from scratch when making your flyer. If you use these tried-and-true methods to market your business, you will see big results.
