When they say their first words, take their first steps, or go to their first day of school, we are very happy. Our children also cause us a lot of stress and costs, many of which we could have avoided. When our teenagers start driving, we worry and have to pay more money. Statistics about injuries and deaths caused by cars keep us on edge until our teenagers get home, and the same statistics make us empty our bank accounts every month to pay for expensive car insurance.
Even though we may not be able to drive our teenagers everywhere they need to go for the rest of their lives, there are several ways we can get cheap car insurance for them.
- Make sure your teen driver takes a driver's education class at school and encourage your teen to do well in school. Many car insurance companies give discounts to teen drivers who have taken and done well in driver education courses.
- Drive carefully. If your teen sees you speeding, ignoring stop signs, and getting angry on the road, he or she is likely to do the same things when they get behind the wheel. When people do these things, they get traffic tickets and get into car accidents. Both of these things will cause their insurance rates to go up and hurt or kill people.
- Put your teen driver on your car insurance. You don't need to buy a separate car insurance policy for your teen driver if you can just add him or her to your own policy. This will save you money on its own, and you may even be able to get a discount for having more than one policy. Ask the person who insures your car.
We can't stop our kids from driving when they get older, but we can find ways for them to get cheap car insurance when they do. Some of these ways will also help our teen drivers become safe, responsible drivers. It works out well for everyone.
